Grab a wish from the list below, record it, and send it to me for my birthday.
One year, instead of gifts and cards for my birthday, I requested everyone bring me a bottle of their favorite BBQ sauce. That turned out to be one of my favorite assortment of gifts I have ever received. Some went down the street to Trader Joes while others shipped in some goods from Kansas. Even my Mom had a family friend hand deliver her choice sauce. There was so much diversity in styles; some were sweet, some were dark, some were light, some were mustard based; and to this day I am still enjoying new flavors whenever I light up the barbecue.
For my birthday this year, in staying in accordance with the CDC, I decided to sit down and write some ideas that brought an incredibly large smile to my face. Mix and match, challenge yourself, or even improvise; whatever you do, grab at least one wish and let's have some fun!
- Make a PowerPoint of your favorite TikTok video, broken down by key moments, with a professional analysis of what makes it great
- Write me a Happy Birthday message using the food on your dinner plate
- Dub the audio of yourself singing Happy Birthday over a video of your pet
- Fabricate a completely made up story of how we might’ve met
- Skydiving has been declared an essential business. Sign up and send me a copy of the receipt
- Climb a tree and take a picture from your vantage point
- Spell “Nick” with all the shoes that have been collecting dust during quarantine
- Play a Coldplay song on the piano (this one is for the roommate)
- Write a letter to yourself at the age of 32; if you’re older, write what you wish you knew; if you’re younger, write what you’d like to do
- Draw a Bible verse or quote that has inspired you during quarantine
- Wear the outfit you wore to the last wedding you attended and record yourself giving a mini three minute TEDx talk of a piece of advice or an area you have expertise in
- Using only kids toys, create a dramatic scene in your kitchen
- Find a plant outside that reminds you of me photograph it
- Send me your favorite adult beverage with a list of ingredients
- Step outside your house with your phone. Open up maps and walk 0.32 miles. Stop. Take a photo of where you’re at and admire
- Pull up Google Maps, find a park you’ve never been to, head over there and document everything you saw along the way
- Create an itinerary for my 33rd birthday
- Create a poster that says “Honk for my friend Nick’s birthday!” and record yourself waving it around at an intersection
- Draw a comic strip about someone turning 32
- Share your favorite childhood memory of us
- Create a personal playlist with 10 songs on Spotify; or better yet, burn me a CD to play in my Honda Accord (not to brag or anything, but I have a 6 CD changer)
- Write me a message in the sand
- Create a sculpture with found objects that remind you of me and explain why you created it
- Skipping #24 in honor of the great Kobe Bryant. Also this list is getting tough to write
- Cut out a paper crown incorporating the number 32 and take a picture of yourself wearing it on your head
- Record a video of yourself blowing out a candle then share your favorite joke
- Share your most useful purchase you’ve made in the last three years. For example, mine was a cheap Amazon bidet. I love it and recommend it to everyone
- Take a photo of something you’ve never photographed before
- Stuff your face with a handful of watermelon sour patch and sing happy birthday chubby bunny style
- Call someone you haven’t talked to since High School and tell them their refrigerator is running
- Share your go-to recipe that you know everyone will be talking about at the party
- Go to your favorite coffee shop and order your favorite drink. When they ask you for your name, say “Fergieliscious”. Send me a photo of you with the cup
Unlike your strict, but you actually did learn a lot from your science teacher in Jr High, late submissions will be accepted.
